Following a 14-2 win over Lamar last Monday night, the Latta Lady Vikings went 9-0 over Johnsonville on Thursday, April 14, to wrap up the week.

The two teams appeared evenly matched as neither the Vikings nor the Flashes were able to get on the board until the fifth inning, when Latta drove in six runs to take the lead. Another three runs in the sixth secured the 9-0 win. Latta had 11 total hits in the win, while Johnsonville had only five.

Latta’s Morgan Mason pitched all seven innings for the Vikings, allowing only five hits and three walks. She struck out two in the victory.

The losing pitcher, Johnsonville’s Ashley Hanna, pitched all seven innings for eight hits and six earned runs. She struck out three.

Latta’s leading hitters included Raven Baxley, 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and one run scored, and Morgan Mason, 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Also hitting for Latta were Dallas Sweat, 2-for-4 with one RBI; Allison Moody, 1-for-4 with two RBIs; Charise Braddy, 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI; Anna Benton Love, 1-for-4 with two runs scored; Paige Lovett, 1-for-3 with one run scored; and Andrea Gilbert, 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Latta’s overall record improves to 16-6-1 overall and 8-1 in Region 8-A.

To date this season, Morgan Mason is 8-1 on the mound for Latta, with Anna Rogers 6-4 and Kaitlin Lewis 2-2. Mason has only given up five walks and has struck out 44 with nine earned runs and an ERA of 1.189 in 53 innings pitched. Rogers has pitched 51.2 innings with 25 walks, 22 earned runs, with a 2.981 ERA, striking out 45. Lewis has pitched in 23.1 innings and walked six with 15 earned runs and an ERA of 4.501. She has struck out 18.

At bat, Charise Braddy has 28 hits, Chelsea Welty and Raven Baxley each have 27, and Allison Moody and Dallas Sweat each have 26. Braddy has three home runs this season, and Lewis has two, with Baxley, Sweat, and Anna Benton Love each hitting one home run. Welty has had four triples this season, and Baxley has three. Sweat has the most RBIs at 22, with Baxley earning 20 and Welty earning 18. Baxley has the most runs at 30, with Sweat and Braddy each earning 24 runs and Welty and Moody each earning 22.

Latta’s team total is 219 hits, 29 doubles, 10 triples, nine home runs, 138 RBI, and 177 runs scored. The teams pitching total is 107 outs, 36 walks, 46 earned runs, for a team ERA of 2.516 across 128 innings.
