Dillon’s Lady Wildcats defeated Lake City 10-0 and Silver Bluff 3-1 to move on to the championship round of the Class 2A District VIII softball playoffs.
On Friday, Dillon hosted Lake City for the first round of the the playoffs and delivered a 10-0 loss to the Panthers. Dillon had 16 hits and scored five runs each in the second and third innings to claim the win. Lake City had only one hit in the loss.
Dillon’s Taylor Price pitched all five innings, allowing only one hit and one walk. Price faced 17 batters, striking out eight. Lake City’s Dease was the losing pitcher, giving up 16 hits, 10 runs, and seven earned runs in four innings.
Dillon’s leading hitters included Shayna Covington, 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored; Rebecca Callahan, 2-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored; and Lindsay Powers, 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Also hitting for Dillon, Tara Grimsley went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run scored; Shaquailla German went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and one run scored; Taylor Price, 1-for-3 with one run scored; Dallas Rowell, 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored; Darby Hamer, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; and Katie Church, 1-for-3.
On Saturday, Dillon hosted the Silver Bluff Bulldogs and came away with a 3-1 win. Dillon scored all three of their runs in the second inning, while Silver Bluff got their only run in the seventh. Both teams had five hits.
Shaquailla German was the winning pitcher, pitching all seven innings for five hits, two walks, and one earned run. German faced 27 batters, striking out 14. Parrish took the loss for Silver Bluff.
Dillon’s Katie Church was the leading hitter, going 2-for-3 with one run scored. Darby Hamer was 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored; Shaquailla German was 1-for-2 with one run scored; and Rebecca Callahan went 1-for-3.
With the wins, Dillon’s overall record improves to 20-6. Dillon will next host the Class 2A District VIII championship game on Wednesday, May 4, at 5:00 p.m. They will face the winner of Monday’s game between Silver Bluff and Academic Magnet. Be sure to attend to support our local team!
