SLED confirms that the agency is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the arrest of Douglas Pernell on a charge of breach of peace, according to Maj. Richard E. Hunton, Jr., Deputy Director, S.C. Law Enforcement Division.
Pernell, the former Dillon County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy, was arrested by current Chief Deputy Larry Abraham at the courthouse prior to a hearing involving the county council on Tuesday, May 24th.
Pernell told The Herald that the SLED inquiry came about after a request from his attorney.
