Pee Dee Electric Cooperative is warning homeowners to be wary of people posing as PDEC employees to gain access to their homes.
The warning is in response to recent reports that elderly residents have been victims of burglaries or attempted burglaries. All Pee Dee Electric employees and employees of contractors hired by Pee Dee Electric have photo identification.
PDEC cautions customers to be mindful of individuals who try to gain access to their homes by posing as utility workers. Utility imposters may carry “official” looking credentials and often work in pairs.
Pee Dee Electric recommends customers take the following steps to ensure their safety against imposters:
*Do not open your door to someone you don’t recognize- ask for a photo ID through the door/window.
*All PDEC employees and contractors carry company photo ID badges.
*To verify a PDEC employee’s identity or work being done at your home, call us at 843-665-4070 or toll free866-747-0060.
*Operators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
*Report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Members who encounter suspected utility imposters are urged to immediately notify the police.
*Visit PeeDeeElectric.com for more information.
*Please remember to share these safety tips with elderly family members, children and friends.
