A man drowned Saturday afternoon after his boat capsized while he was fishing.
The man is identified as Leroy McDowell, age 51, of Dillon, according to Coroner Donnie Grimsley.
Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office said 9-1-1 received a call that the victim and his son were fishing in a pond on Blue Moon Drive in Hamer when the boat capsized. Arnette said the victim was not a swimmer. A search was done with the dive team and the boat, and a few hours later the victim was located in the water.
Arnette said that the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources, Dillon Rescue Squad, Dillon County EMS and the Coroner’s Office responded.
