Donald Carter, 65, died at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, Saturday, November 12, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Main Street Methodist Church in Dillon, SC, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon, SC.
Mr. Carter was born in Dillon County June 9, 1946 the son of Vivian Carter and Charles Gray. He retired as a driver trainer for the Department of Education. Mr. Carter was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church of Dillon where he was active in the Methodist Men and served as Treasurer for the church for many years. He retired as a Major in the National Guard, was a member of the Darlington N.C.O. Club, and was on the supervisory committee of S.C.I.F.C.U.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Barbara Cieluch Carter; one son, Scott (Rutledge) Carter of Burbank, CA; one daughter Michele (Dwayne) Smith of Dillon, SC; his step-brother, Mitchell Gray of Latta, SC; and his step-sister, Lois (Mark) Luce of Darlington, SC. He is survived by five grandchildren: Beth Horne, Gabe Carter, Brandon Smith, Bryan Smith, and Kylie (Jason) Carnes and three great grandchildren.
