American Education Week is celebrated each year in the United States. This year the theme was “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”
Across the nation, schools hosted activities to recognize students, parents and teachers. Stewart Heights Elementary and South Elementary planned activities during the week of November 14-18.
Parents were invited to visit classrooms for Authors’ Tea Programs.
Students recited poems, read stories, and participated in Readers’ Theatres that showcased their literary skills. Cafeteria staff and Title I funds supported the programs by supplying cookies, drinks, and juice for the performances.
Stewart Heights had 329 parents in attendance and South entertained 193 parents.
In addition, breakfasts were held for faculty and staff members, paraprofessionals were honored with luncheons, and faculty and staff members were recognized for years of service.
Jayne C. Lee, principal, sincerely appreciates the efforts made on the students’ behalf during this special week and throughout the school year.
