To the Editor:
Sunday afternoon I went to an Eagle Award ceremony for Smith Gaddy, a very deserving scout. I learned that head scout master Ricky Gardner will be retiring from scouting soon. The Eagle award is earned by approximately 4% of scouts. Scout Master Gardner’s Troop 777 in Latta has 15 eagle scouts out of Gardner’s original 20 boys. This outstanding percentage is due to the boys, their parents, and their instructors. I know Bill Aston and Richard Gaddy have been instrumental help for Ricky, and I’m sure there are others. Mr. Gardner has approached scouting with the same enthusiasm he displayed on our football teams of 1969 through 1971. Thanks for all you’ve given to our youth Ricky.
Sincerely
