Latta's #9 Julie Williamson hit a hard one to the pitcher to make it to base and scored on a missed ball by the catcher for the Latta Belles' only run.
Dillon’s Dixie Darlings won their elimination game against Florence last night to stay alive in the district tournament, while Latta’s Belles and Ponytails fell in their district games.

Dillon defeated Florence 15-13 and will move on to face Turbeville tonight for the district championship. Dillon will have to win twice to claim the title.

Avery Lovell got a big hit for Dillon that became an inside the park home run due to throwing errors from Florence. Hadleigh Herndon hit two doubles, and Abby Bristow had a good game at first base.

Lexi Rogers had a double and “played a very good defensive game,” according to coach Lee Herndon. He added that he was very positive about tonight’s games.

“It should be very competitive play tonight,” coach Stevie Grice added. “Come support your Dillon team!”

Meanwhile, Latta’s Belles had a tough time handling Georgetown in the Belles district tournament. Georgetown got off to a 3-0 lead in the first and widened it to 11-1 in six innings. Georgetown claimed the win with a final score of 19-1.

Latta's #4 Terri Cox makes a great catch on a fly ball for an out in the Ponytails' game against Surfside.
Latta’s Ponytails brought a lot of energy to the field and lead Surfside 11-9 heading into the fifth inning. But Surfside’s #15 hit a long one to left center to pick up two RBIs and put them one point behind Latta at 12-11, and by the end of the fifth, Surfside had taken a 14-12 lead. Latta’s #1 Kaylie Miller hit a grounder to third for an RBI to trail 14-13, but the next out ended the game before Latta could tie things up.
