ATEC students are getting the opportunity to get ServSafe certified.
ATEC Director Jerry Strickland told the Dillon County Board of Education recently that 21 students just became certified.
The ServSafe program helps prepare you for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification exam.
Training covers these concepts: the importance of food safety, good personal hygiene, time and temperature control, preventing cross-contamination, cleaning and sanitizing, safe food preparation, receiving and storing food, methods of thawing, cooking, cooling and reheating food, HACCP (Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points), food safety regulations, training employees, past management and microbiology.
ProStart is a nationwide, two-year program for high school students that develops the best and brightest talent into tomorrow’s restaurant and food service industry leaders.
From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart’s industry-driven curriculum provides real-world education and builds practical expertise for a foundation that will last a lifetime.
Students who have completed the requirements of the ProStart program are awarded an industry-recognized certificate-the Prostart National Certificate of Achievement. To earn the certificate, students pass two national exams, demonstrate a mastery of foundational skills and work 400 mentored hours.
Students who receive the certificate are eligible for NRAEF scholarship opportunities and course credits at more than 75 of the country’s leading hospitality and culinary arts colleges and universities.
Student certification is valid for five years.
