Graveside services for Virgie Hayes will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
     Mrs. Hayes, 86, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at her residence.
     Born in Dillon County, SC, May 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank Meekins and Maggie Culberth Meekins.  She was a member of Dillon Second Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, a member of the Dillon AARP Chapter, a member of the Dixiana Mills retired Club, and also a member of the Dillon Parks and Recreation Senior Group.  She was the widow of the late Julius Franklin “Jack” Hayes.
     Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Kathy) Hayes of Florence, Donald Hayes, Mackie Hayes, and Jackie (Mandy) Hayes all of Dillon; son-in-law, George Shelton of Dillon; brothers, Frank Meekins, Leroy Meekins, and Jim Meekins, all of Dillon; sisters, Betty Evans and Margaret McKenzie, both of Dillon; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
     Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Hayes Shelton; brothers, Edgar, Herbert, Lloyd, Jessie, and Coy Meekins; and her sisters, Virginia Thigpin and Lottie Price.
