Cadet 2LT Geonary Gillespie was named the Voice of Democracy winner for Dillon County.
He was given this award recently by Vice Commander Jim Chavis from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6091.
This is a national contest competing for a 30,000 dollar scholarship.
If he is also the winner on the state level, his essay will be sent to compete in Nationals.
This certificate also shows that his essay is an example of the fine students enrolled in Dillon High School. In Cadet 2LT Gillespie’s essay, he stated that, ”We are Ameri-cans, not Ameri-cant’s; therefore we can do nearly anything within reason that we set our dreams toward.”
This statement reflects Cadet 2LT Gillespie’s intentions of pursuing a military career after his high school graduation.
