Several Dillon Middle School seventh and eighth graders will be visiting Washington, D.C. from May 29-June 2 led by trip coordinator, James E. Moultrie, who has taken hundreds of students on the trip in his years as an educator.
On the trip, students gain invaluable experience including firsthand knowledge of the political process, a new perspective on issues facing the country, and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Some of the goals students will gain from the trip are:
-To promote an understanding of the three branches of the American Government, their perspective functions, and their sites of operation.
-To extend knowledge of American History by actively participating in historical interpretations and touring of selected historical attractions.
-To give an overall view of American life from the the time Jamestown was founded to present.
-To promote student patriotism and instill a sense of pride in our heritage.
-To increase awareness of the responsibilities and duties of American citizens.
-To review a vast array of subject matter discussed in the classroom by touring the Smithsonian Complex.
-To instill an appreciation for the gallantry of American service personnel who fought and died to protect the freedom Americans hold dear.
The students are working hard on several fundraising projects. If you would like to help these students participate in this trip, please contact James Moultrie at the school at 774-1212.
