Bobby Eugene Coates, 80, died Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Hospice House in Florence after an illness.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Dillon County, April 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Ezra Coates and Allene Cook Coates. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, was a loyal employee of Dixiana Mill for more than 32 years, and he attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kay S. Coates of Dillon; daughters, Debra (Bob) Butler of Florence and Kathy Myers of Effingham; son, Johnny (Tonya) Eller of Dillon; grandchildren, Jessica Coates, Donnie Coates, Justin Myers, Ethan, Haiden, and Easton Eller; great-grandchildren, Logan Barfield, Jorden, Jayden, and Jamison Myers; sisters, Bonnie (Harold) Mew of Dillon and Ellen Chancey of Valrico, FL.

Mr. Coates was preceded in death by his son, Donald Coates; sister, Sylvia Burch; and a brother, Buddy Coates.
