Dillon’s 8U Dixie Darlings fell 10-7 to Mississippi’s East Central on the third day of softball action at the 2013 Dixie Darlings World Series in Alexandria, Louisiana.
North Carolina’s Boger City Optimists edged South Carolina state champ Dillon 13-12 in the first round on Saturday, but Dillon defeated Alabama 20-14 on Sunday to stay alive in the tournament. But on Monday evening, Mississippi took a 10-7 win to eliminate the Dillon girls from the series.
Also on Monday, Florida defeated Texas 8-6 and Virginia defeated host team Alexandria National 25-8 to advance in the elimination bracket. In the winners’ bracket, Louisiana handed Tennessee their first loss, defeating Madison Central 18-9.
In Tuesday’s action, Louisiana sent North Carolina to the loser bracket with a 5-4 win, allowing the Louisiana ladies from Sabine to remain undefeated. Florida edged Mississippi 8-7 in the elimination bracket and was scheduled to get another shot at Louisiana on Wednesday. Louisiana defeated Florida 10-9 in the second round. In Tuesday’s other elimination bracket game, Tennessee knocked off Virginia 11-7 and was scheduled to face North Carolina on Wednesday.
If Louisiana wins, they will advance to the series championship to face the winner of the Tennessee/North Carolina game. If Louisiana loses on Wednesday, there will be three teams with one loss each. If two or more of the teams remaining have played the same number of games, those teams will draw for a bye while the other two teams face off to determine who will play in the championship game.
