On Wednesday, the Vikings faced Green Sea-Floyds for a 16-1 win in five innings. Latta scored eight runs in the top of the first and seven in the top of the third, while the Trojans scored their only run in the bottom of the first. Latta added one run in the top of the fifth to seal the win.
Travis Power earned the win on the mound, pitching all five innings and allowing just two hits with 11 outs. Green Sea’s Caines took the loss, pitching 1.3 innings for seven hits, seven earned runs, and three walks.
At bat for the Vikings, Josh Bowen went 2-for-3 with three runs scored; Christian Hendrix went 2-for-4 with three RBI; Donell Stanley went 2-for-3 with two RBI; John Kever Love went 1-for-3 with two RBI; and Avery Berry went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.
On Thursday night, the Vikings traveled to Darlington and battled the Falcons for a 10-9 loss.
The Vikings added two runs in the top of the seventh and had a runner at second, but Darlington’s Ke’Shaun Samuel struck out JK Love to end the game at 10-9.
Darlington’s Derek Dubose picked up the win on the mound, pitching three innings for two hits, one walk, and one out. Ke’Shaun Samuel got the save.
Latta’s Colby Lee took the loss, pitching five innings for five hits, four earned runs, and one walk while striking out nine.
For Latta, Donell Stanley and Jackson Williams each went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Latta had five hits in the effort.
On Friday, Latta hosted Hannah-Pamplico and the Vikings picked up a 12-2 win in six innings.
Latta picked up one run in the bottom of the first inning and three in the second for a 4-0 lead. Hannah-Pamplico earned their only two runs in the top of the fourth, but Latta put the game out of reach with five runs in the bottom of the inning, and sealed the win with three more in the bottom of the sixth.
Latta’s Christian Hendrix earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings for four hits,two earned runs, and three outs. Hannah-Pamplico’s W. Tanquay took the loss, pitching 5.6 innings for six earned runs, three outs, and two walks.
Josh Bowen led the Vikings at bat, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Jackson Williams went 2-for-4 with one RBI; Donell Stanley went 3-for-4 with two RBI; and Colby Lee went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Latta had 11 hits in the win.
Hannah-Pamplico was led by W. Tanquay, 2-for-2 with one RBI, and D. Welch, 1-for-3 with one RBI. The Raiders had four hits in the effort.
The Vikings improved to 5-2 in the regular season and 3-1 in Region 8-A.
Latta is scheduled to travel to Lake View tonight at 5:30 p.m. to face local and regional rivals the Wild Gators. The Vikings will be back home to host Creek Bridge for a double header on Thursday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
