The Dillon Wildcats fell 7-2 to the Class 3A Darlington Falcons on Thursday night but earned an 8-3 win over Loris on Friday.
The Wildcats traveled to Darlington on Thursday and got off to a 1-0 start in the first inning with Weston Bailey reaching on a single with Duncan Callahan picking up the RBI. In the top of the second, the Wildcats’ Kaleb Page reached on an error and was brought in by Weston Bailey to put Dillon up 2-0. But Darlington picked up two runners in the bottom of the inning to tie things up and held off the Wildcats through the rest of the game.
The Falcons picked up two runners in the third with Hooks reaching on an error and Spears hit by pitch. Both were brought in by a double from Justin Mack. In the fifth, Darlington’s Ke’Shaun Samuel reached on a single and Mack was hit by pitch. Carter singled to bring in Samuel, and Cory Weatherford singled to score Mack. Darlington’s Fortune also singled to score Carter, but Depugh flew out and Weatherford was tossed out on the way home to end the inning with Darlington ahead 7-2.
Dillon had an opportunity to score in the top of the seventh with Jarvis Graves reaching on a single. Graves advanced to second and stole third, but Dillon’s last two batters both flew out to end the game at 7-2.
Darlington’s Ke’Shaun Samuel earned the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and facing 30 batters for seven hits, two runs, one earned run, one walk, and 14 outs.
On the mound for Dillon, Patrick Herring took the loss, pitching four innings for five hits, one walk, four runs, and six outs. Omar McCollum pitched two innings for four hits and three earned runs.
Samuel also helped lead Darlington at bat, going 2-for-4 with with two runs scored. Darlington’s Hooks went 1-for-4 with one run and two stolen bases; Justin Mack went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored; Fortune went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI; Carter went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored; Cory Weatherford went 1-for-3 with one RBI; and Marcus Spears reached on a walk to score one run with a stolen base.
At bat for Dillon, Weston Bailey went 2-for-4 with one RBI, two stolen bases, and one run scored; Jarvis Graves went 2-for-3; Duncan Callahan went 1-for-4 with one RBI; Ethan Hayes went 1-for-2 with a stolen base; Omar McCollum went 1-for-3; and Kaleb Page scored one run.
In the field, Ethan Hayes made eight put outs and Gunnar Grossetti made seven, with Kaleb Page making two and Charles Sowells getting one. Weston Bailey made three assists, with Kaleb Page making two and Patrick Herring and Joseph Scott each adding one.
On Friday, the Wildcats traveled to Loris and earned an 8-3 win over the Lions.
Neither team could score in the first inning, but the Wildcats were able to pick up four runners in the top of the second. Dillon picked up another run in the fourth and added two in the fifth and held off the Lions until the bottom of the fifth, when three Lions singled and one reached on error to pick up three runs. Neither team could score in the sixth, but the Wildcats earned one run in the top of the seventh to cap the win.
Dillon’s Weston Bailey earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game for three runs, five hits, five outs, and two walks. Tanner Cox took the loss for Loris, pitching all seven innings for 14 hits, three walks, two outs, and eight earned runs.
At bat for the Wildcats, Joseph Scott went 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored; Kaleb Page went 3-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored; Omar McCollum went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Duncan Callahan went 2-for-4 with one RBI; Weston Bailey went 1-for-2 with two RBI; Jarvis Graves went 1-for-3 with one run scored; Gunnar Grossetti went 1-for-4 with one run scored; and Ethan Hayes went 1-for-4.
Loris was led by Tanner Cox, 2-for-3 with a RBI and a stolen base, and Ryan Bellamy, 1-for-4 with a RBI, a stolen base, and one run scored. Kolin Causey went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and one run scored; Keith Norris went 1-for-1; and Austin Hord stole a base and scored one run for the Lions.
In the field, Ethan Hayes made 11 put outs and Patrick Herring made five with Omar McCollum, Gunnar Grossetti, Jarvis Graves, and Dekendrick Hayes each making one. Weston Bailey made three assists and Kaleb Page and Dekendrick Hayes each made two.
The Wildcats improved to 8-1 overall and remained undefeated at 4-0 in Region 8-2A.
Dillon was scheduled to host Waccamaw on Tuesday night and will be at Marion on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
