Dear Editor:
I feel that when a person is elected, appointed or run unopposed into office (of any kind) they themselves do not have to be a perfect person; we all have our many faults, but I feel that they do need to hold themselves above reproach in that office with their decisions. They must think of the good of the people as a whole that they represent. I am very sorry this entire situation has come about but, it is not to late to change it. Let’s put aside Chief Moore’s lifestyle choices and Mayor Bullard’s personal objections for a moment. In the February 2014 council meeting, Chief Moore asked each council member if there were any issues they had with her job performance and how did they think she was doing with her job. Each member was asked.  All “7” said she was doing a great job and they had NO ISSUES with her. This included Mayor Earl Bullard.
Now, how can a person go from 20+ years with no reprimands, to February 2014 doing a great job with no issues, per Mayor Bullard, to being written up with 7 issues all in one day, one month later and fired by Mayor Bullard?  Let’s get real, the “GOOD OLE BOYS” days are gone. We must follow policies and procedures. The Town Council voted on this policy (and I believe it was when Bullard was on the council) to follow these policies and procedures. Also, not ALL state laws supersede town laws and this IS one of those. I really hope the Mayor will realize how his decision has affected our Town and many of the citizens and accept his mistake and rectify it and stop all of this and get back to Town business.
Anyone can make a wrong decision, but it takes a strong, honest and decent man to admit and correct his mistake.  I hope Mayor Bullard is that person. Right the wrong of injustice and hire Chief Crystal Moore back. We have other Town issues that need your attention and until this is corrected our town is at a stand still. The council does not support you and that is extremely bad for our town. Work together for us, the citizens of Latta.  And in case you haven’t noticed, people from all walks of life have united in support Chief Moore and that speaks volumes for our town.
