The Dillon District Four Board added language to the Electronic Device Procedure Policy IJNDB at their meeting Monday night.
Director of Student Services, Lynn Liebenrood, said the purpose is to protect the staff. The added language reads as follows:
Personal Electronic Communication Devices
The District prohibits the use of any type of personal camera phone, cell phone camera, digital camera, video camera, or other form of image- or voice-recording device without permission of the district and of each person whose image and/or voice is/are recorded.
Employees should not bring personal computers or data storage devices (such as floppy disks, CDs/DVDs, external hard drives, flash drives, “smart” phones, iPods/iPads/iTouch or similar devices, mobile computing devices, or other data storage media). Any employee bringing a personal computing device, data storage device, or image-recording device onto district premises gives permission to the district to inspect the person computer, data storage device, or image-recording device at any time.
Personal devices may not be used for storage or recording of any student data at home or work.
Care should be given to any type of personal devices that no student data is accessible by any other person who may use that device. No student data or related information should be stored on any personal device at any time.
The revisions also delete a reference to the “Excent” program and add a line to the “Electronic Device Procedures Form” that states:
“I understand that I will not use any personal devices at work. I understand that on any personal device student data is not accessible by any who may use the device and that no student data is stored on the device.”
Motion to approve the added language and revisions was made by Trustee Earl Gleason and seconded by Trustee Burt Rogers. The motion was approved.
