Sarah Carter, a rising senior and a fifth semester JROTC cadet at Latta High School earned the honor of Superior Cadet at the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge held at Fort Jackson from 9 to 15 June 2014. Cadet Carter was selected from her platoon of over 50 cadets to represent her peers. She earned the honor as a result of her performance during a series of interviews conducted by a board of Senior Non-commissioned Officers who are also Army Instructors at various high schools around the state. She advanced through the Company board finally being selected after the Battalion board as the second honor graduate and the title of Superior Cadet. Each cadet performing before the board was evaluated on their military bearing, personal conduct, appearance in uniform and their ability to answer questions concerning their skills and knowledge of the JROTC curriculum. The annual camp was attended by 630 JROTC cadets representing 60 high schools from around the state. The award was presented at the graduation ceremony on June 15th by the guest of honor, Brigadier General Darlene Goff, Director, Joint Staff of the South Carolina Army National Guard.
