United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated that James Morris Sellers, age, 35, of Dillon, was sentenced in federal court in Florence on July 18th for felon in possession of a firearm. United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence, sentenced Sellers to 210 months imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.
On April 3, 2013, James Morris Sellers was arrested by officers with the Dillon Police Department after they responded to the area of 215 Hampton Street for a shots fired call.
The officers approached Sellers who fit the description of the potential shooter and observed a handgun sticking out of his right jacket pocket. Srllers was placed under arrest for the firearm which turned out to be a stolen Hi-Point 9mm pistol.
Sellers had prior felony convictions in both South Carolina and the federal judicial system.
On March 10, 2014, Sellers was found guilty after a one-day trial in federal district court in Florence, South Carolina, of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The case was investigated by the Dillon Police Department and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Buddy Bethea of the Florence office prosecuted the case.
