Pastor Larry Williams and numerous volunteers distributed 40,000 lbs. of food and 32,157 pounds of ice cream as part of his America Restoration Tent Revival, which was held in Dillon from July 14-18.
The food distribution took place on July 18th at the site of the revival on West Main Street in Dillon.
The food distribution served over 721 families not including the ice cream, said Pastor Williams, so over 1,000 people in Dillon County and the surrounding area were served in total.
Among the items distributed were Mars products, Frito Lay products, Unilever products, Campbell Soup products and more. In addition, 4,485 cases (32,157 lbs.) of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream was distributed. Feed The Children were also donors to the distribution.
The food distribution is nothing new for Pastor Williams or his church, Tabernacle Of God Ministries. It is something they have done for over 23 years. It started out in Dillon at a house, which served as the church. Then it escalated to a warehouse and currently, he has a 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse in the Mullins area where the products are stored.
Pastor Williams said they do not deny anyone who comes in need of food. Pastor Williams said he can’t judge who is need. He said that just because someone has on nice clothes, drives a car , or has a job doesn’t mean they have food in their pantry. He says he lets the conscience of the people be their guide.
Pastor Williams said the food distribution helps some people make ends meet.
About 20-25 volunteers from various churches were helping with Friday’s distribution.
Pastor Williams did not only feed the physical needs of the community through the food distribution but also helped meet spiritual needs with a revival each evening spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Williams said they had a great revival, and it was packed every night. He said he appreciates the city allowing him to hold the revival and the distribution. Pastor Williams will be holding a tent revival at Myrtle Beach at the Pavilion on Ocean Boulevard from September 1-5.
