Mr. Joseph Samuel “Sammy” Townsend, 78, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at McLeod Regional Medical Center of Dillon, after an illness.
A funeral service will be Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Dillon, with burial to follow at Lake View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View.
Mr. Townsend was born in Dillon County, the son of Worth and Edna Norman Townsend.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dillon.
Mr. Townsend is survived by his wife, Doris Townsend; a son, Joseph Samuel “Sammy” Townsend, Jr. (Karla) of Coward; daughters, Sonda Holland (Gregg) of Georgia, Crystal Powers (Wayne) of Dillon, and Stephanie Flick (Mike) of Fairmont, NC; a brother, Townie Townsend (Nancy) of Florence; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
