Mrs. Dora Elizabeth McDonald Floyd, 99, died Monday, August 11, 2014, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home and Skilled Care Facility in Fork, SC.
Dora was born in Dillon County October 12, 1914, a daughter of the late Miley Hugh and Roberta McKenzie McDonald. She was married to World War II veteran, William Currie Floyd.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and daughter Henrietta, as well as her brothers Everette and Herbert McDonald, and her sisters, Jeddie McArthur, Beulah Rumley, Fleetwood Hamilton, Shelly McDonald, and Isla Dew.
Widowed with a three-year old daughter, Dora became a devoted homemaker, mother, and faithful member of Union United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Loretta Floyd (Claude) Grantham of Lake View, SC, grandson Derrick Chad Grantham of West Columbia, SC, special granddaughter Cecelia C. Poston of Mullins SC, special nieces Flora M. Barnes of Easley, SC, and Jean M. White of Kannapolis, NC along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A service to celebrate Dora’s life was held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 4:00 pm at Union United Methodist Church with Pastor Lou Perez presiding. Family will greet friends following the service. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery in Dillon, SC directed by the Cooke Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and loving staff of Sunny Acres Nursing home and Embrace Hospice.. Dora was loved by them and spoiled by many, especially Tanya.
