Johnny Tracy “J.T.” Powers, Sr., 73, of Barco, NC died Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Chesapeake Regional Hospital.  A native of Latta, SC, he was the son of Tracy Franklin and Vera Mae Berry Powers and the widower of Barbara Ann Haselden Powers.  He was a retired law enforcement officer having served with the Chesapeake City Police for thirty-two years and the Currituck Sheriff Department for five years.  He was a Mason and a Ruritan, having most recently served as President of the Coinjock Ruritan Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Ellen Amos and husband, Michael of Easley, SC and a son Johnny Tracy Powers, Jr. of Currituck, NC; two sisters Beatrice Nance and husband, Bill of Lumberton, NC and Sylvia Hyatt and husband, Ronald of Hamlet, NC; two brothers, Bobby Powers and wife, Eleanor and Billy Powers and wife, Janice of Latta, SC; two grandchildren, Michelle Marshall and husband, Dusty and Taylor Nicole Powers and one great grandchild, Linleigh Marshall.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 209 Black Branch Road, Dillon, SC  29536 officiated by the Rev. Dr. Eugen Bach. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, NC and on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, Dillon SC.   Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 404 Jessup St., Elizabeth City, NC  27909 or to the Coinjock Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund, 130 Coinjock Baptist Church Road, Coinjock, NC  27923.   Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
