Avery McCall and Eri’Reon Hayes continue to put up big numbers and cause opposing coaches to instruct the officials to run the stadium clock continuously after the first half.

Such was the case Friday night when McCall completed nine of ten pass attempts for 218 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Dillon Wildcats to a 41-6 win over the Aynor Blue Jackets at Memorial Stadium. Hayes caught four passes, all for touchdowns, for 166 yards. The Cats had beaten the Blue Jackets, 43-14, back during the sixth week of the schedule.

While McCall and the Dillon offense were putting up the points, the Nasty Cat Defense continued to keep opponents off the scoreboard with different players stepping up each week with outstanding performances. Zareon Hayes came off the bench against Aynor to record 12 tackles, 11 of which were solo shots, and starting linebacker Daeshawn Davis recorded six solo and three assists.

Gerome McLeod also added 7 take downs. Aynor, known for the tight running formation, recorded 209 yards on 48 running plays, but Jackson Woodle and Caleb Jenerette could complete only 3 of 7 passes for a net total of 12 yards through the air.

With the Wildcats leading 28-0 at the intermission, Aynor opted to keep the clock running continuously during the second half, especially when Johnny Allen capped the opening drive of the third quarter with a 3-yard run. McCall ran for 15 yards and threw for 12 more to set up the 4-play drive that gave the Cats a 35-0 only 2 minutes gone in the quarter.

Hayes made an outstanding catch going high in the air to pick the ball out of the hands of a defensive back to put the finishing touches on the victory. Drew Covington’s kick for the point after was blocked leaving the score 41-0.

Aynor kept the football for most of the fourth quarter and put six on the board with a 65-yard drive, capped by an 18-yard run by Kamron Johnson, Aynor’s leading rusher for the season. Johnson netted 80 yards for the game, second to Daquan Smith’s 88. Smith’s attempt for a two-point conversion was stopped short of the goal line.

McCall showed his running ability with a 39-yard romp on the second Wildcats possession and Covington’s first of five consecutive extra points gave the Cats an early 7-0 lead. After that, the talented junior quarterback went to work with Hayes hitting him three times in a period of 9 and a half minutes for touchdowns of 36, 50 and 46 yards respectively.

The Cats finished the night with 318 in the air and 131 on the ground. Jamison Chapman was the leading rusher with 52 yards and McCall was right behind with 49, followed by Allen with 34.

For the year, McCall and Hayes own all the passing records. McCall has amassed 2433 yards, eclipsing Tyquan Hayes record of 2,029, which was set in the 2010 season. Hayes has recorded 1,133 yards and has caught 19 touchdown passes, both of which were 2010 records.

Dillon will take on Waccamaw this week in round 2.
