Hannah Moody Nelson, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in Florence, South Carolina after a brief illness.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Dillon, SC on February 14, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Clarence LeGrande and Hannah Gibson Moody. After graduating from Dillon High School in 1939, Mrs. Nelson attended Limestone College in Gaffney, SC and graduated from Miss Hardbarger’s Business School in Raleigh, NC. During World War II, Mrs. Nelson worked as the Secretary to the Adjutant at Palmer Field in Bennettsville, SC where she met and married Elmer Todd Nelson, of Hyde Park, NY in 1943. If asked about her greatest achievement in life, Mrs. Nelson would say it was her family, of which she was immensely proud. Mrs. Nelson, a long-time member of DAR, and her husband of 71 years were also expert square dancers, performing in front of four presidents, and avid travelers, visiting all 50 states and countries around the world.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband, Elmer Nelson, her son J. Todd Nelson and his wife Louise Eads Nelson of Danielson, CT, her son Robert Moody Nelson and his wife Kathie Walton Nelson of Ardmore, PA, her grandson Daniel Nelson and his wife Anna Nelson, of Denver, CO, her grandson Andrew Mackie Nelson of Philadelphia, PA, her grandson Timothy Walton Nelson of Larchmont, NY, her great grandchildren Gabriel, Aubrey, and Nickolas Nelson of Denver, CO, her sister-in-law Crystal Lupo Moody of Dillon, SC, her sister-in-law Mary Virginia Moody of Florence, SC, and many nieces and nephews and their families across the country.
A private service for family members and invited guests will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 in Florence, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials and contributions may be made to The Seagle Colony, 999 Charlie Hill Road, PO Box 366, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
