The Lake View Wild Gators took losses in the early rounds of the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic Tournament at Myrtle Beach, SC, this week.

The tournament includes 64 teams from around the country playing at different sites in South Carolina. The early rounds will determine the tournament seeding, with the single elimination tournament beginning Thursday with the championships on Friday.

On Monday, March 30, the Wild Gators took on the Aynor Blue Jackets for 3-2 loss. Aynor scored all three runs in the bottom of the third, reaching on a single from Nobles and a hit by pitch, and scoring on errors.

Lake View scored both of their runs in the top of the sixth, with Carson Rogers reaching on an error, and Josh Price reaching on a fielder’s choice. Both runners scored on errors.

Price pitched five innings and allowed one hit, one hit by pitch, three runs, and one walk, striking out seven. Brent Herlong pitched one inning for the Gators for one walk and one out.

For Aynor, Lang pitched 5.2 innings for five hits, two runs, one walk, and five outs. Woodle pitched 1.1 innings for two outs.

At bat, Aynor’s Nobles got the only hit for the Blue Jackets, going 1-for-3, and Nobles, Woodle, and Hucks each scored a run.

For the Gators, Justin Elliott went 2-for-3 with one RBI; Weston Rogers went 1-for-3; Hunter Stevens went 1-for-3; Carson Rogers went 1-for-4 with one run; and Josh Price scored one run. Lake View had five hits and three errors.

On Tuesday, March 31, the Gators faced Robinson, Virginia, and fell 6-3 in seven innings.

Lake View scored two runs in the third inning with Stevens reaching on a hit by pitch and Carson Rogers reaching on a single. Robinson picked up five RBI in the bottom of the inning, reaching on an error, two walks, and two hits.

Robinson added one runner in the fifth when Mason Velasquez reached on a single, advanced on a hit by pitch and a single that loaded the bases, and scored when Nicco German drew a walk. Shane Hopkins hit into a fielder’s choice to end the threat with a 6-2 lead. The Gators picked up their last run in the seventh with Connor Anderson reaching on a single and advancing on singles from Stevens and Carson Rogers.

Weston Rogers pitched three innings for five hits, five runs, and five walks with one out. Nick Collins spent two innings on the mound for two hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, one hit by pitch, and one out, and Carson Rogers pitched one inning for two outs.

Shane Hopkins got the win, pitching four innings for three hits, two runs, two earned runs, three hit by pitch, one walk, and two outs. Mason Velasquez pitched three innings for three hits, one run, and one earned run.

At bat for Robinson, Christian Kim was 2-for-2 with two RBI; Philip Jiamson and Andrew Suppa each went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run; Mason Velasquez went 1-for-4 with one run; Tyler Jumper went 1-for-4 with one RBI; Inwoo Yi went 1-for-1 with one run; Nicco German picked up one RBI and one run; and Will Miller added one run scored.

For Lake View, Carson Rogers went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run; Weston Rogers went 1-for-4 with one RBI; Nick Collins went 1-for-3 with a double; Hunter Stevens went 1-for-3 with one run; and Connor Anderson went 1-for-3 with one run scored.

Lake View was scheduled to take on IMG, Florida, on Wednesday with the single-elimination tournament beginning today.
