Robert McRae was born July 4, 1925 to Dewey and Leasie McBride McRae. He departed this life on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
He served faithfully and proudly in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal Technical Five on February 8, 1946. He was a faithful member of McCoy’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer for 19 years, and was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Robert McRae and Tesessa Dudley were married August 31, 1946; this union was blessed with six children.
Robert retired from Dixiana Mill in 1987, he also retired from driving taxi in 2003 after 53 years; (The Last Taxi Driver). After retirement he enjoyed lunch every three months with the retirees from Dixiana Mill, visiting with the Boys on Hampton Street and sitting on his front porch.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Teressa D. McRae on October 6, 2013. Also going before him were his parents, sisters: Corine Brown, Evelyn Daniels, and Clara Bethea and his brothers Richard McRae and Ed McRae. He is survived by: his six children who will forever chereish his precious memory; Raymond of Nottingham, MD, Deloris (Ronald) Augustus, and Claretha (Famon) Whitfield of Dillon, S.C., Robert (Joyce) McRae of Latta, S.C. Gloria (James) Summerville of Stamford, CT and Dewey (Nelly) McRae of Carrollton, VA. He has 12 grandchildren who loved him dearly; they all shared the same name, his (Jitterbugs) five great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. His memories will be shared also by his sisters-in-law: Gwendolyn McRae of Newark, NJ, Tommie Jane McCormick, Fayetteville, NC, Inez Standard of Orangeburg, S.C. and Evelyn Bethea of Stamford, CT, brothers-in-law, Thomas (Pal) Dudley, Robert (Rachel) Dudley and James (Geraldine) Adams of Dillon, S.C.; and all of his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His cousins: Pensacola A. Smith, Dorothy A. Bethea, Katie Mae Bethea and Lurdene Wright. Special accolades to those who looked after him, Wanda McLain, Sherry McNeil and Denise Whittington; a devoted friend Major (Hattie Mae) Bethea, and special neighbors who are like family, James Archie and Mary Bethea.
