Roy Lamar Carter went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 31, 2015.
Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Born in Dillon County, SC, December 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Roy and Alice Louise Ammons Carter. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Dillon, S.C., where he served faithfully in many positions including sound technician, Sunday School Secretary, and Financial Recording Secretary. He also enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially chicken bog. He especially enjoyed working in the concession stand making hot dogs for his daughter’s softball and volleyball games, where he was affectionally known as “Pops”. He retired after 34 years from Dixiana Mills in Dillon, where he was a supervisor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by wife of 54 years, Barbara Beam Carter; and daughter, Shirl Denise Carter of Dillon, S.C.; brother, Bobby (Margaret) Carter; sister, Irene Grimsley and Christine Huggins.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Carter; and brothers, William and Jimmy Carter; and sisters, Virginia Kernodle and Rachel Owens.
