A luminary service was held at Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery and Mausoleum in Dillon on December 5th.
This is a special occasion planned to assist those in attendance in honoring their loved ones and friends buried and entombed there. The music, meditation, and the lighting of the luminary candles are all designed to bring comfort and hope to them and their family as they celebrate God’s gift of memory.
The order of service was as follows:
The Prelude-Ms. Becky Elvington
Welcome-Mr. Benny Cooper
Christmas Melody-Debbie Hill, Carroll Hamilton
Christmas Meditation…Rev. Bert Petty
Instructions for Lighting the Candles
The Postlude-Ms. Elvington
Lighting of Candles
The candles are lit in memory of loved ones who have departed this life.
They were reminded that as they light a candle, they help to dispel the darkness for others and help to remind each other that Jesus is the “Light of the World.” In John’s Gospel 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the Light of the World; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
