Walker J. “W.J.” Coward, 86, died Sunday, December 20, 2015, at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence after an illness.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dillon First Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
Born in Dillon County, April 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Lenneau Coward and Ruth Taylor Coward.  He was the widower of the late Betty Caulder Coward, and worked with the Dillon County Fire Department for 48 years with 34 of those years as an Engineer.
Survivors include his daughter, Sylvia Ann (Billy) Lane of Dillon; son, Jerry (Angela) Coward of Dillon; sisters, Geneva Lane, Shirley Lewis, and Faye Davis all of Dillon; 6 grandchildren, Jimmy Clark, Vickie Rogers, Mitchell Lane, Jason Coward, Justin Coward, and Jordan Coward; 2 great-grandchildren, Amber Rogers and Morgan Rogers.
Mr. Coward was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Caulder Coward; his sisters, Gladys Jackson, Josephine Lewis, and Elizabeth Williams; and his brothers, Bill Coward and L.B. Coward.
