Three local garden clubs—the Dillon Garden Club, the Glove and Trowel Garden Club, and the Yellow Jessamine Garden Club—hosted The Garden Club of South Carolina Coastal District Spring Meeting on March 9th at the City of Dillon Wellness Center.
The theme was “Visions of Spring,” and the Wellness Center was elegantly decorated to fit the theme of the event.
The day began with registration, coffee, and vendor sales. The business meeting and district awards began at 10:00 a.m.
Linda Siceloff, Director of the Coastal District, gave the call to order. Dr. John O. Bumgardner, Jr., pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Dillon, gave the invocation. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag and the South Carolina Flag.
The group was warmly welcomed by Julie LeChette of the Glove and Trowel Garden Club, the meeting chairman. Mayor Todd Davis also warmly welcomed the group to the City of Dillon. Joan Schuster, President of the Driftwood Garden Club, gave the response followed by the presentation of the head table by Linda Siceloff. Yvonne Morris, Garden Club of South Carolina President, gave remarks.
Julie LeChette introduced the guest speaker. The guest speaker for the business meeting was Mary Ridgeway, Garden Director at Kalmia Gardens, who gave an informative presentation.
Remarks were then given by Karen Prewitt, Garden Club of South Carolina Second Vice-President. Julie LeChette gave the registration report This was followed by the much-anticipated awards presentation by Allyson Hirsh, Co-Director of the Coastal District. Chairman Nancy Corrigall gave the report of the Coastal District Nominating Committee.
This interesting two-hour session was followed by a break and then luncheon. Jan Austin of the Dillon Garden Club gave the blessing for lunch.
After lunch, a design program was presented by Emily Stephens, Design Chairman of the Coastal District.
Following the design program, Nancy Corrigall of the Georgetown Garden Club gave the invitation to the 2017 Spring District Meeting. A special presentation was made by Julie LeChette.
Door prizes were given. The meeting was adjourned by Linda Siceloff. Everyone seemed to have a lovely time.
