After a week of play in the Dillon Kiwanis baseball season, the Dillon Internal Medicine Hurricanes are tied with the Physician’s Healthcare Yankees with two wins apiece. Defending champion Dillon Family Dental Giants have lost both both games played this season.
In the Minor League, the Burger King Braves and McLeod Health Marlins also have two wins apiece, while the Ace Hardware Tigers and Pepsi Cola Blue Jays stand at 0-2.
In Thursday’s Minor League action, the McLeod Health Marlins, Jessie Altman supplied the power at the plate to lead the Marlins to a 6-4 win after just 3 and a half innings of play. He drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the third with a double and later scored on a throwing error. His single in the first inning sent Brendan Miles across the plate in the first inning to take a 2-1 lead after one. Getting the starting pitchers roll, Miles left the mound in a 3-3 tie with the Tigers. Jamison Hargrove worked the final two innings allowing one run in the fourth and struck out five to get the win. Jamison Pittman also had a hit for the winning Marlins. For the Tigers, Raymond Falaniko had an rbi single in the bottom of the first to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead and Jackson Outlar drove in the final run with a base hit to send Holden Cooper home.
In the second game, the Burger King Braves edged Pepsi Cola, 8-7, with a 4-run comeback in the bottom of the final inning. Brody Cook drove in a pair of runs with a ground out and Cody Altman drove in Bryce Patterson with the winning run with a single. Patterson had tied the game with a single. He also led the team at the plate with a double and another single. Gavin Kelly doubled for the winners. Dan Graves and Cook added a single apiece for Burger King. For Pepsi Cola, Patrick Ni’ronkuru had an rbi single in a six-run fourth inning for Pepsi and in the same inning Tanore Monroe hit a bases loaded triple.
In Friday night’s Major League play, the Physicians Healthcare Yankees scored six runs in the first inning and added three more in the 4th to stop the Lake View Gators, 9-1 in the opener and the Internal Medicine Hurricanes belted eleven base hits to defeat the Dillon Family Dental Giants, 13-3, in the nightcap. The Yankees had Andrew Bryant with a pair of hits, including an rbi double and Dylan Windham doubled home two runs in the big first inning. Windham was also the starting and winning pitcher for the Yanks going five innings striking out 14, walking 3 and giving up one run. Others with hits for the winners were Avery Hewitt with a single and Hayden Lane with an rbi single in the opening frame. Lake View scored with two out in the final inning to avoid the shutout. The Gators had five hits, all singles by Shaheed Dawkins. Tyler James, Davon, Tyquail McInnis and Bradley Tart.
In the final game of the week, the Hurricanes scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning on consecutive hits by Nigel George, D.J. Brogdon and Reggie Graves and then after a strikeout, Holden Matthews singled, “T” Davis doubled, Jacob English singled and Ryan Williamson doubled. George also had a double and Jacob English singled in the first. Andre Castrejon also had a hit for the ‘Canes. The Giants scored three runs through the first three innings. Cadillac Hunt doubled and scored on a throwing error in three trips to the plate and Brody Bethea added two singles in two plate appearances. Reggie Graves was the winning pitcher.
In the Minors, Pepsi Cola will take on the McLeod Marlins at 6 on Monday followed by the Hurricanes and the Yankees at 7:30 in the Majors.
