The Dillon Internal Medicine Hurricanes improved to 8-1 with a hard fought 5-4 victory over the Dillon Family Dental Giants in Monday’s only game. Due to a schedule conflict, the Mullins team asked to move their game with the Physicians Healthcare Yankees to Wednesday, May 11 at 7PM. The Giants jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a hit batter, an rbi single by Chandler Pittman and an error on a ground ball off the bat of Cade Williams. Tripp Roberts led off the second for the Hurricanes with a single and took advantage of a passed ball and his speed to steal third before racing home for a 2-1 score.
The Giants maintained the 2-1 lead until the fifth inning when D.J. Brogdon and Holden Matthews singled and doubled respectively to tie the game.
Matthews stole home to give the Hurricanes the lead. Nigel George received an intentional base on balls and stole his way all the way around the bases and home to give the ‘Canes a 4-2 lead, but the Giants roared back with two runs in the top of the 6th. Leo Garcia led off with single and advanced to second on a fielding error, but starting pitcher Tripp Roberts retired the next two batters on strikes.
Brock Mack laced a double to the left field wall to tie the game, but was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.
With one out in the bottom of the 6th, Que Singleton tripled and Andrew Castrejon sent him home with a single to win the game.
In the Minors on Tuesday, the Burger King Braves beat Lake View 10-5 in the first game to stay on the heels of the McLeod Health Marlins which defeated Pepsi Cola in the second game by a score of 15-1. Brody Cook and Bryce Patterson drove in three runs apiece to lead the Braves at the plate.
Weston Byrd, Dan Graves and Cody Pittman also had hits for the winners. Kason Herlong led Lake View with two hits including a triple in a two-run first inning. Slate Lewis doubles and Jaden Ford hit an inside the park homerun driving in two runs. Bryson Miller also had a hit for Lake View.
