Manning, School Counselor at East Elementary School was the guest speaker at the Criterion Club Summer Camp. She was dressed as Amelia Bedilla from the book “Amelia Bedelia and the Baby.” She read the story to the campers. She talked about her educational background and the duties of a school counselor. Dr. Manning also involved the campers in a social activity with the students from the book, “No One Will Ever Know,” by Carl Somna. The camp director, Mrs. LaMecisa Bethea, and assistant, Ms. Robin McRae, thanked Dr. Manning for reading to the children and talking about her careers. Officer Turner and Mace demonstrated several procedures that they have to perform on the job. Office Turner also talked to the children about being safe. (Contributed Photo) On Thursday, June 22, Mr. Kevin McLellan, Band Director at Dillon Middle School, was the guest speaker at the Criterion Club Summer Camp for Career Awareness Week. Mr. McLellan talked about his decision to become a music teacher. He said his love for music started in the church. Several of the students stated they want to be like him when they grow up. He explained to the campers about his position as Mayor of the City of Dillon and not Mayor of Dillon County; there is a Mayor in Latta and a Mayor in Lake View. The campers made the correlation of Mayor Davis as the head of the City of Dillon as the President as head of the United States.
