George Melton Chestnut, 79, passed, away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2020, at his residence after an illness.
Born in Marion County, SC, on October 3, 1940, he was the son of the late James A. Chestnut and Rowena Owens Chestnut. After retiring from Vesuvius U.S.A. (Dillon Plant) he worked for Dillon County Waste and recycling center as shift location manager. He was a faithful member of Oakland Holiness Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Chestnut, of their home in Hamer; sons, George M. Chestnut, Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Hamer; Ronald Chestnut and wife, Denease Chestnut, of Hamer; grandchildren, Chris Chestnut of Portland, Oregon, and Annette Chestnut of Marietta, NC; great-grand daughter, Morgan Hartzell of Marietta, NC; sister, Lena Mae George of Bennettsville.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Oakland Holiness Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; brothers, Ben Chestnut, James A. “Jr.” Chestnut and Billy Chestnut; sister, Madalene Atkinson; and his beloved canine companion, Snooty.
