The Dillon Christian School Warriors hosted the Cavaliers of Calhoun Academy Friday night with the Warriors dominating the Cavaliers 40-6.
The Warrior attack was led by Hayden Hickman gaining 209 yards with three touchdowns.
The Warriors put the game away early scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter. Warrior quarterback Cameron Sweat finished the Warrior first possession with a 45-yard touchdown run, Josh Brown added the point after kick to put the Warriors up 7-0 with 11:16 left in the first quarter.
The Warrior defense held the Cavaliers forcing three downs and punt giving the Warrior offense the ball near mid field. Logan Jones ended the short drive with a three-yard touchdown run. Brown’s extra point kick increased the Warrior lead to 14-0 with 7:33 left in the first quarter.
With 3:22 left in the first quarter Hayden Hickman picked up the Warriors’ third touchdown with a 25-yard touchdown run. The point after kick was off holding the Warrior lead to 20-0.
Brown’s kickoff pinned the Cavaliers at their eight-yard line. The Warrior defense forced a fumble that was scooped up by Brown and returned eight yards for the touchdown. The conversion failed. With 2:28 left in the first quarter the Warriors were ahead 26-0 with the first quarter ending with this score.
The Warriors played reserves and starters in the second quarter giving young players some needed experience. The Cavalier offense took advantage and finished a late second quarter drive with a 30-yard touchdown pass with 2:43 left in the first half to close the Warrior lead to 26-6. The conversion failed and the first half of play would end with this score.
The Warriors put their offense back in high gear in the third quarter. Warrior runner Hayden Hickman scored on a 50-yard touchdown run with 7:39 left in the third and followed with a three-yard TD run with 2:21 left in the third quarter. Josh Brown added the point after kicks to give the Warriors a 40-6 lead with the quarter ending with this score.
Both sides played reserves in the fast-clock-run fourth quarter with no additional scoring.
The 40-6 Warrior win puts the Warriors at 3-1 on the season.
On offense for the Warriors Cameron Sweat had 88 yards on 7 carries with a touchdown and added 22 yards passing, Hayden Hickman ran over the Cavaliers defense gaining 209 yards on 9 carries with three touchdowns, Logan Jones had 66 yards on five carries with a touchdown, Dewayne McCormick caught a pass for 14 yards adding one-yard rushing and Austin Heasley caught a pass for eight yards.
On defense, Cooper Lane had 13 tackles with a quarterback sack; Colby Thorndyke had nine tackles with a quarterback sack; Caleb Boykin had seven tackle; Zach Wilkes, Austin Heasley, and Logan Jones had five tackles each; Josh Brown and Anthony Carter had four tackles each with Brown recovering a fumble and returning it eight yards for a touchdown; Kaleb Pulley and Landon Buck had three tackles each; Gabe Bissell had two tackles; Hayden Hickman, Adam Norman, Ethan Brewington, and Joey Groosetti added a tackle each.
Warrior statistician Matt Adams reported that the Warriors had 362 yards of offense holding the Cavaliers to 22 yards. The Warriors will be at home Friday facing region foe Carolina Academy. The Bobcats are loaded again this year and the game should be an exciting matchup for fans in attendance. Game time is set for 7:30.
