The Latta Lady Vikings handed the visiting Kingstree Lady Jaguars a 61-41 loss in varsity basketball action on Friday, February 5, in Latta.
Latta jumped out to a commanding 22-8 lead after the first period of play under the leadership of Head Coach Sandra Gomillion.
The Lady Vikings were up by 24 points, 41-27, at halftime. By the end of 3 periods of play Latta had doubled the scoring of Kingstree.
Latta’s Makayla Legette led all scorers with 20 points on four 3-point baskets and four 2-point baskets. Moya McDuffie added 16 points on five 2-point baskets, one 3-point basket and 3 points at the charity line. Adaya Gordon added 7 points on three 2-point baskets and a free throw while Shawniza Bethea also connected for 7 points on a 3-point basket and two 2-point baskets. Ambrosia Berry had a 3-point basket and a 2-point basket for 5 points. Brycelin Berry, Kardae McFadden, and Kaliya Herman each garnered a 2-point basket.
Kingstree’s Ta’Kiya McGee led her team in scoring with 18 points on four 3-point baskets, two 2-point baskets, and 2 free throws. Makayla Dukes added 8 points to the scoreboard with one 3-point basket, a 2-point basket, and 3 free throws. Destene Goodwin connected for 7 points on three 2-point baskets and a free throw while Makeda Murphy sank three 2-point baskets for 6 points. Kiara Brown garnered a 2-point basket.
Kingstree committed 5 fouls in the first half and 3 fouls in the second half while Latta was guilty of 6 fouls in the first half and 7 fouls in the second half.
