The Dillon Christian School Warriors defeated the visiting Carolina Academy Bobcats 67-52 in varsity basketball action played in Dillon on Friday, February 5.
These two teams warmed up prior to tip-off to prepare for the ensuing battle. During the short warm up period, each team sank some good shots.
The Dillon Christian School Warriors controlled the opening tip-off. However, the Carolina Academy Bobcats scored the first 2 points of the game.
The two teams raced from one end of the court to the other end in this fast-paced, action-packed battle with the Warriors taking a 12-3 lead with 4:03 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Bobcats would slowly claw their way to close the score. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were up 15-11. The Warriors’ lead continued to dwindle. However, the Warriors maintained a lead until a little over a minute to go in the first half when the Bobcat’s Austin Brown sank a 3-point shot to close within 1 point of the Warriors, 26-25. With 42.7 seconds remaining in the first half, the Bobcats’ Matt Gaskins sank he go-ahead basket to lead 27-26 for the first time in the game.
The third period began with Dillon’s Cameron Sweat sinking a 2-point shot to take the lead, 28-27. Dillon’s Greyson Singletary followed with a 3-point basket of his own.The score was close in the third quarter with both teams exchanging baskets. With 2:14 remaining in the third quarter, the Bobcats’ Dewayne McCormick sank a 3-point basket to give the Bobcats a 40-36 lead. The Warriors fought back and quickly regained the lead as time expired in the third quarter Dillon was up 41-40.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors managed to pull away from the Bobcats.
Dillon Christian School’s Greyson Singletary at a game-high 23 points with seven 3-point baskets and a 2-point basket. Adam Norman added 13 points with four 2-point baskets and 5 of 8 attempted free throws. Colby Thorndyke contributed 12 points with six 2-point baskets.
Cameron Sweat had two 2-point baskets and 1 free throw while Weston Glasgow had 5 points on a 2-point basket and 3 free throws.
Ethan Brewington and Caleb Boykin each had a 3-point basket. Dewayne McCormick garnered a 2-point basket.
George Wilder led Carolina Academy with 12 points on two 3-point baskets, two 2-point baskets, and 2 free throws while Austin Brown contributed 11 points on two 3-point baskets, a 2-point basket, and 3 free throws. Matthew Joye placed 9 points on the scoreboard with two 3-point baskets, a 2-point basket, and 1 free throw.
Matt Gaskins added 8 points on three 2-point baskets and 2 free throws. Brennah Smith connected for two 3-point baskets. Cade Castles had two 2-point baskets. Makarius Epps garnered a 2-point basket.
Dillon Christian School Warriors committed 7 fouls in the first half and 8 fouls in the second half while Carolina Academy Bobcats committed 10 fouls in the first half and 10 fouls in the second half.
