Omaha, Neb. (April 28, 2023) – Gatlin Johnson of Latta, SC, was recently awarded a $2,500 WoodmenLife Focus Forward Scholarship®. Johnson, a WoodmenLife member, submitted an application highlighting his high school academics, activities, and volunteerism, as well as an essay on patriotism.
Johnson, the son of Charlie and Ashley Johnson, is a senior at Latta High School. In the fall, he will be attending the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. Johnson has set his sights on earning a master’s degree in Finance. To achieve his dream of opening an accounting firm in his hometown, he has decided to major in both Finance and Accounting. This is the first step toward his future goal.
“I want to be a financial adviser to families in my local community, so they can invest and plan financially for their futures,” said Johnson.
“I want to help make sure others have the opportunity to send their kids to college without the worry of financial burdens.”
WoodmenLife has been providing scholarships since 2017 and has given more than $2.7 million to over 4,600 students across the country who are pursuing higher education at trade schools, colleges, and universities. This year, the scholarship program will award 571 scholarships, with amounts ranging from $500 to $10,000.
