The Latta Vikings varsity baseball team lost a heartbreaker 4-3 to Aynor on Monday, March 20, in Latta.
Aynor took an early 2-0 lead after scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning.
Neither team was able to put another run across home plate until Latta managed 1 in the bottom of the third inning. However, Aynor still held a 2-1 lead.
Both teams mustered a run in the fourth inning but Latta still lagged behind by 1 run.
However, in the fifth inning Latta knotted the game at 3 when Cledus Wiliams drove in a run when he singled.
The tie didn’t last long as Aynor scored what would be the winning run in the top of the sixth inning when J. Duke singled off of Caleb Mishue driving in the run.
Noah Henderson started the game as pitcher for the Latta Vikings. He pitched 3 innings, allowed 3 runs, 3 hits, and struck out 2.
Caleb Mishue was tagged with the loss for the Vikings as he pitched 2 innings in relief. He allowed 1 run, 3 hits, struck out 1, and walked no one.
Martin was credited with the win for Aynor as he pitched 4 innigs . He allowed 3 hits, 2 runs of which were not earned, walked 4, and struck out 2.
Latta committed 2 errors, and Aynor did not commit any.
Aynor managed 8 hits. J. Duke managed a triple, 2 singles, and 2 rbi in his 4 at-bats. H. Franklin connected for a single in his 1 at-bat. P. Richardson garnered 2 doubles and a rbi in his 4 at-bats. S. Hudes managed a rbi in his 4 at-bats. L. Martin singled in his 3 at-bats while W. Richardson also connected for a single in his 4 at-bats.
The Vikings’ Deonte Stanley garnered 2 singles in 3 at-bats while McLeod Carmichael mustered a single and a rbi in his 2 at-bats. Russ Rogers connected for a single and a double in his 3 at-bats for Latta while John Malcolm George and Cledus Williams each singled and picked up a rbi in 3 at-bats.
The Latta Vikings traveled to Marion on Wednesday, March 22, and will host Johnsonville today (Thursday, March 23) at 6:00 p.m.
