Spring break has caused quite a few problems with the Kiwanis Dixie Youth Baseball Program.
Make-up games (rain-outs) are always taken care of on the next available date and Monday’s rain has forced Wednesday night activity at Ray Wilson Field. The Major League games between the Dillon Dental Giants and Physicians Healthcare Yankees will be played at 6 Wednesday and Lake View will be here to take on the Dillon Dental Giants immediately following. Even though no games are normally scheduled on Wednesday, it is the only night when make-ups can be made.
In last night’s Minor League action the ACE Hardware Tigers and KJ’s Market Blue Jays kept their winning streaks going with the Tigers stopping the McLeod-Dillon Marlins, 11-3 and the blue Jays finished on top of the Burger King Braves,11-1 by the 10-run rule. In the first game, Weston Byrd led the Tigers with a perfect four for four batting performance and allowed only two hits in four innings on the mound, striking out eight. He singled twice, doubled and tripled with two RBIs. Dakota Barfield and Jackson Outlar also had RBI singles for the winners. Cason McGarity and Colby Plummer had the only hits for the Marlins.
In the second game, Trevin Horne doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the fourth to take the ten-run decision over the Burger King Braves for the KJ’s Blue Jays. Austin Miles was the winning pitcher allowing only two hits while striking out five. Horne also had an RBI single first inning to lead all hitters with a 2 for 3 performance. Blue Jays second baseman, Jaiden Huth also drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double in the bottom of the second. Others with hits for KJ’s were Michael Love, Avery Sherman, Miles, Jaden Williamson and Jacob McNeil. Both hits for the Braves came in the second inning when Seth Minshew led off with a triple and scored the lone run off Blue Jays pitching on a single by Austin Beasley.
