The Latta Junior Legion baseball team led for 5 innings before falling behind in the sixth inning and had to come from behind in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Pamplico 8-7 in a game played in Latta on Monday, June 5.
Latta managed to get 2 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and added another run in the bottom of the second inning and the fourth innings before Pamplico scored a run in the top of the fifth to give Latta a 4-1 lead. However, in the top of the sixth inning, Pamplico exploded for 6 runs to take a 7-4 lead. Latta added 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth when Jackson Blayne Powers tripled to score Chandler Matthews from first to tie the game at 7.
Hunter Sawyer singled to left, and Jackson Powers scored to give Latta an 8-7 victory.
Latta’s Kody Anderson picked up the win while pitching only 1 inning.
He allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1.
Pamplico’s Garrett Turner was tagged with the loss. He pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 8 hits, 5 runs of which were earned, walked 2, and struck out 6.
Each team committed 3 errors in the game. Mason Hicks connected for 2 rbi on 2 hits in 4 at-bats for Pamplico while Talbert Poston garnered 2 hits and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Hayden Locklear picked up a rbi on a hit in 3 at-bats.
Latta’s Kody Austin Anderson connected for a double, a single, and 3 rbi in his 5 at-bats.
