Detective James “Hoghead” Campbell is retiring after 25 years of service in law enforcement.
The Dillon High School graduate came up through the ranks to his present position having served first at the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Harold Grice and now at the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Fred Knight.
Campbell got into law enforcement because he always wanted to follow in his Daddy’s footsteps and hopes that one day his son Jamison Malik Campbell will one day continue the family tradition of law enforcement service.
While Campbell is laying down the shield, it may not be for long.
His plans are to come back and work with the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office if called on by Sheriff Knight.
“I thought I would be gone for good, but it’s not in my blood to quit,” said Campbell, who would like to serve another 20 years after retirement.
Campbell would like to thank Sheriff Grice and Sheriff Knight for the confidence they have had in him and the opportunities they have afforded him.
