On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, a deputy with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to serve an eviction notice to a tenant at a residence on South 10th Avenue in Dillon, when an incident occurred, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
The tenant become confrontational with the deputy and entered the residence. The deputy called for assistance and officers with the Dillon Police Department responded along with additional deputies.
The individual made threats to law enforcement officers and barricaded himself in the residence.
The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and the Dillon Police Department, along with family members tried to negotiate with the individual for hours and the standoff ended when officers entered the residence and removed the individual from the residence without incident. The individual was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Larry Gene Farmer, age 56, of Dillon was arrested after the evaluation and charged with opposing or resisting law enforcement officer serving process and threatening life of public official.
