The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announces the arrest of a Mississippi man accused of attempted murder and pointing a firearm at law enforcement personnel.
Stephen Carl Elkins, 60, of 5169 Manin Street, Lucedale, M.S., is charged with Attempted Murder and three counts of Pointing and Presenting a Firearm.
According to a SLED arrest warrant, Elkins allegedly entered the Dillon Family Medicine facility in Dillon on November 11, 2010 with a loaded firearm with the intention of obtaining prescription narcotics from physicians.
Elkins is further accused of pointing a loaded firearm at law enforcement in an attempt to fire upon an officer and deputies. Elkins was shot by law enforcement officers responding to this incident. SLED is investigating the officer involved shooting as well. SLED is investigating this case, including the officer involved shooting incident, at the request of the Dillon Police Department and the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
