BENNETTSVILLE – May 6, 2020 – Marlboro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MEC) announces that it will be continuing the 8% rate decrease for its residential members for another month. Members will see this decrease as a line item on their May electric bill.
“Since 1939, MEC has worked to outperform our member’s expectations every single day, regardless of circumstances. Even during this particularly rough patch, we are continuing to do everything we can to help,” stated MEC president and CEO William Fleming. “Along with protecting ourselves and our members, this continued rate decrease is one more way we can do our part to get through this safely together.” On March 15, MEC began suspending disconnects for nonpayment. However, please note that balances will not be forgiven, and late fees will still apply. MEC urges members to pay what they can to avoid building up large balances that will be harder to pay off later.
“We know that this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of our members in many different ways,” said Bo McInnis, Chairman of the MEC Board of Trustees. “For those financially struggling, we hope that extending this rate decrease will help lessen some of that burden. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the employees of MEC, I would like to also extend a special ‘thank you’ to all the moms out there, and wish them the happiest and healthiest possible Mother’s Day.”
