The Dillon Christian School Warriors traveled to Florence Thursday night for a region matchup with The Kings Academy Lions with the Warriors routing the Lions 36-6.
There are some natural athletes on the young Warrior team but most are learning the basics. Bringing these young athletes along for their future roles on the varsity squad are Head Coach Michael Hayes assisted by Coaches Brent Hardy and Matt Adams.
The Lions were bigger than the Warriors but the young players from Dillon did not back down and met the Lions head on winning the battle on offense and defense.
The Warrior offense is led by a very talented quarterback Avery Sherman that has a stable full of receivers, Ford Richardson, Jackson Outlar, Grey Easterling, Reese Bracey, Thompson Stone, Hayden Moody and Mills Hayes. Future standout lineman Jasper McIntyre, Gavin Jones, Ethan Sampson, Terry Knight, Richie Rodrigues and Branston Brewington will be counted on to open holes for running backs and overpower offensive lines on defense. The coaches expect several other players to prove themselves gaining experience as the season progresses.
With 45seconds left in the first quarter, Avery Sherman found Ford Richardson open hitting him with a 40 yard touchdown pass. The conversion failed holding the Warrior lead to 6-0. The first quarter would end with this score.
On the Lions first possession of the second quarter, a bad snap from center put the ball on the ground. Several players were scrambling for the loose ball but the good hands of Avery Sherman scooped up the ball and returned it 24 yards for the touchdown. Jackson Outlar ran in the conversion to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead with 7:53 left in the second quarter. On the Warriors first offensive possession of the second quarter, Outlar finished the drive with a 26-yard touchdown run. The conversion failed holding the Warrior lead to 20-0 with 4:39 left in the second quarter. With time running out in the first quarter, The Kings Academy found the end zone on a 12-yard quarterback keeper run.
The conversion failed allowing the Warriors to take a 20-6 lead into the halftime break.
The Warriors got the ball to start the second half of play. The drive ended quickly with Outlar breaking several tackles on his way to a 39-yard run. Sherman ran in the conversion to up the Warrior lead to 28-6 with 7:32 left in the third quarter.
With 1:30 left in the third quarter Warrior defensive lineman Gavin Jones powered his way through the Loins offensive line and sacked the quarterback for a safety to increase the Warrior lead to 30-6.
The third quarter would end with this score. Outlar picked up his third touchdown of the game on an 18-yard run with 7:24 left in the game to put the Warriors up 36-6. The conversion failed.
The Warriors played reserves for the remainder of the game. The 36-6 win puts the Warrior B-Team at 1-1 on the season. On offense for the Warriors Avery Sherman was 6 of 12 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown adding 26 yards rushing and running in a two point conversion, Jackson Outlar had 113 yards on 7 carries with three touchdowns and caught a pass for 18 yards and ran in a two point conversion, Hayden Moody caught two passes for 21 yards, Ford Richardson caught a 40 yard touchdown pass a completed a pass for 9 yards,
