Marcus Carlisle Bethea, Jr., 83, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020, at MUSC Florence.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Atkinson Cemetery in Centenary directed by Cooper Funeral Home of Dillon.
Born in Marion County, SC, February 15, 1937, he was the son of the late Marcus Carlisle Bethea, Sr. and Cleve Dozier Bethea.
He was a member of the Dillon First Baptist Church where he was a sunday school teacher, RA Leader, and Deacon for many years.
He was the Valedictorian of Marion High School Senior Class of 1959, where he played basketball and baseball, and they were the baseball State Champions in 1959.
He was a 1963 graduate of Wofford College where he received a BA in Psychology and Education.
His working career for many years was comptroller for Mohawk Industries, and he was a U.S. Army Veteran. Marcus was a loving father, admired by his wife, and loved by many.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rosemary Atkinson Bethea of Florence; son, Dr. Marcus Bethea, III (Dawn) of Elizabeth City, NC; daughter, Elizabeth Daniels (Keith) of Dillon; grandchildren, Ann Bethea, and Kayla Bethea, both of Raleigh, NC, and Mary-Katelyn Walters of Dillon.
Mr. Bethea was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph “Jo” Bethea and Jack Bethea.
